生於北京一個音樂世家，三歲開始學習鋼琴，曾考入北京中央音樂學院附中受訓。移居香港後於演藝學院以高級優異成績完成演藝專業文憑課程。1989年，她在新加坡舉行的勞力士音樂表演大獎賽中名列前茅並赴日本與澳洲演出。翌年她赴美國三藩市音樂學院深造，並獲該院頒授全免獎學金，於四年間完成音樂學士與碩士學位。
作為一個獨奏家，許氏曾與多個樂團合作，其中包括澳洲昆士蘭青年樂團、在美國加州的謝拉社區交響樂團、聖羅莎交響樂團及瑪林交響樂團。此外，她曾以傑出藝術家身分在加州聖路易斯奧比斯堡莫札特音樂節中演出，並於1994至1999年間，以客席鋼琴家身分參加每年一度的俄亥俄州蘭卡斯特音樂節，曾兩度與著名鋼琴家木村‧柏加合作，演出鋼琴四手聯彈與四架鋼琴聯奏。

2000年, 她與鋼琴家郭品文成立了”諄意四手”二重奏 (HK DUO), 曾應邀在愛爾蘭，韓國，馬來西亞及中國大陸舉行音樂會，深受好評。許氏曾將一些管弦樂作品改編為鋼琴二重奏，其中包括為四手聯彈改編的普羅科菲耶夫之《羅米歐與朱莉葉》組曲, 以及為雙鋼琴改編的斯特拉汶斯基之《火鳥》組曲。

許氏於1994年返港後，開始任教於演藝學院，並在浸會大學和香港中文大學兼課，積極從事鋼琴演奏與教育工作，曾多次舉行獨奏、重奏音樂會，為電臺及電視臺節目演出，舉行有關音樂的講座﹑大師班以及擔任國內外鋼琴比賽的評委。她曾師隨楊鏡釧、殷承宗、李其芳、鐘榮達及麥克‧麥卡雷。

HUI Ling Born in Beijing, Hui started studying piano at the age of three in a musical family and received her early musical training at the secondary school of the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music. After completing the Professional Diploma with High Distinction at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1990, she was introduced by the former music director of San Francisco Ballet Mr. Denis de Coteau, entered the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she obtained Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in four years with full scholarship.
Hui has won many prizes including the Rolex Performance Award in Singapore and the concerto competition in San Francisco Conservatory of Music. As a soloist, she has performed with many orchestras, such as the Sierra Community Orchestra, the Santa Rosa Symphony and the Marin Symphony in California as well as the Queensland Youth Orchestra in Australia. In 1991, she appeared as the featured artist in the San Luis Obispo (California) Mozart Festival, invited by Mr. Jeffery Kahane, who is the music director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Also she was the resident pianist for the Lancaster Festival in Ohio for 5 years where she performed twice with the renowned pianist Jon Kimura Parker in piano duo recitals and four-piano extravaganza concerts.

In 2000, she formed the HK Duo (www.hkduo.com) with pianist Julie Kuok. Since their highly successful debut, the Duo has staged regular recitals in Hong Kong and overseas. She also arranged the Romeo and Juliet Suite by Prokofiev for piano duet, and the Firebird Suite by Stravinsky for two pianos.

Hui has been teaching at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts since 1994 and is currently on staff at the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong as well. She has given many solo and chamber recitals, performances for radio and television programmes, lectures, and master classes. She has also served on the jury for local and international piano competitions. Her piano teachers include Yang Jingchuan, Li Qifong, Yin Chengzong, John Winther and Mack McCray.
